Week 7 Post B

As I was reading Quiet Strength this quote really stood out to me; “I thought about a year earlier, at 12-0, when Jamie asked if he could be with me on the field at the Super Bowl. The sharp pain of his death struck again, but I forced myself to return to the moment. I tell guys to hang on to memories but to live in the moment because we never know what will happen down the road” (Pg 286). This quote really stood out to me because Tony Dungy is saying that it is okay to remember, and cherish memories. But there is a point where you need to put them aside because you can’t always live in the past you need to live in the future. I know when Dungy lost his son it was one of the toughest times in his life, and I really respected how he dealt with it. He was sad for the loss which is I’m sure was very hard, but at the same time he wasn’t depressed about it. In that quote I believe Tony is saying that you need to love everybody as much as possible because you never know when they will leave or when an accident may occur. I once lost a grandmother that I was very close to, and it was the toughest time of my life. I was in sixth grade so I didn’t know quite how to deal with it. I went through some sad times, but then I just started to cherish the good memories that me and my grandma shared.

Week 7 Post A

1.)Picturesque-Visually charming or quaint, as if resembling or suitable for a painting: a picturesque fishing village (pg 278).

2.)Apropos- Fitting; at the right time; to the purpose; opportunely (pg 281).

One emerging theme in the book I am reading Quiet Strength is that hope is available to all of us.

Week 6 Post B

As I was reading my book Quiet Strength this quote really stood out to me; from Jeremiah 29:11: “for I know the plans I have for you,’ says the Lord. ‘They are plans for good and not for disaster, to give you a future and a hope” (Pg 228). When I read this quote it really related to me as an athlete. As an athlete I am always working so hard for my goal in life, which is to play college hockey for the North Dakota Fighting Sioux. I know that God has a plan for me, but I can’t resist thinking about what that is going to be. This quote shared with me that no matter what God has a plan for you that will be good. Also that he wants to give you a future, and a hope to achieve your goal. I also can relate to this quote because as an athlete you always deal with disappointments whether it’s being cut from a team or having a bad game, and this quote helps you deal with those disappointments because you know that God has a plan for you. I really respect what Tony Dungy says because I know he was a good football player that dealt with many disappointments, and I respect what he says very much.

Week 6 Post A

1.) Pacified-To bring or restore to a state of peace or tranquillity; quiet; calm: to pacify an angry man (Pg 218).

2.) Volatile-Evaporating rapidly; passing off readily in the form of vapor: Acetone is a volatile solvent (Pg 220).

One emerging theme in the book I am reading Quiet Strength is that "it's what is in our hearts that matters, even if our words say otherwise" (Pg 218).
